A New Orleans-based conveyor belt manufacturer has leased a 310,000-square-foot facility at Tradepoint Atlantic, a move that will expand its East Coast operations footprint by 70% and add to its existing presence in Greater Baltimore.
Intralox’s decision to move into the built-to-suit facility is driven by growth in its Logistics & Material Handling Business Unit, according to a release Thursday. The increased space will enable the company to expand its industrial machinery operation with a focus on parcel automation equipment for parcel, postal, e-commerce and distribution customers. The new facility will also include expanded production facilities, increased inventory capacity and a wellness center for employees.
Intralox has already hired 70 employees for the Tradepoint site and plans to eventually have 100 workers there, said Karyn Kearney, a spokesperson for Intralox. The company’s production team has already moved into the facility and office staff will follow in June, she added.
The expansion adds to Intralox’s presence in the region. The company already has three facilities in Hanover — two that are occupied and another coming in June — as well as a facility in Elkridge, Kearney said.
“Another exciting expansion in Baltimore is not only attributed to the global growth in e-commerce and parcel handling but should also be attributed to the hard work and innovation of our people,” said Derek Lester, Intralox LMH Business Unit manager, in a statement. “We look forward to growing our team in the Baltimore area.”
Intralox was founded in 1971 and currently has more than 3,000 employees around the world as well as 60,000 customers in more than 100 countries, according to the release.
It is the latest company to join the fast-growing logistics center at the former Bethlehem Steel site in Sparrows Point. Anchors at the 3,300-acre site include Amazon.com, FedEx, Under Armour, Floor & Decor and Home Depot. Spice giant McCormick & Co. Inc. is developing a 1.8 million-square-foot distribution center there and a 50-acre offshore wind staging center, and a steel fabrication facility for offshore wind parts, are also in the works.
BMW of North America also opened a 35-acre distribution center at Tradepoint earlier this month.
